{"id":27,"date":"2009-07-18T21:45:58","date_gmt":"2009-07-19T01:45:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/SupportSeniors.org\/blogs\/Morningside-Village-Blog\/2009\/07\/18\/traveling-near-to-travel-far\/"},"modified":"2014-09-19T14:21:19","modified_gmt":"2014-09-19T18:21:19","slug":"traveling-near-to-travel-far","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lily-old.org\/LiLY-blogs\/Morningside-Village-Blog\/2009\/07\/18\/traveling-near-to-travel-far\/","title":{"rendered":"Traveling Near to Travel Far"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week volunteers in pairs began visiting residents of our local nursing home.\u00a0\u00a0 One great part about this neighborhood project is that you don&#8217;t need to waste time traveling to enjoy an enriching volunteer experience.\u00a0 For example, <!--more--> I had 45 minutes to spare today, so I stopped by spontaneously while walking my dog (approved to enter in advance) and knocked on A&#8217;s door.\u00a0  It turned out he was an acclaimed fashion designer with lots to say.\u00a0  We came a long way in a short time.\u00a0 I look forward to walking with him soon and hearing more about his trips to China, back in the days.<\/p>\n<p>This week, we have also been discussing various modes of operation for our Morningside Village, apropos to Dr. John Scileppi&#8217;s comments about creating a membership system, asking senior members to pay an annual fee as a way to give more structure to our community system as well as income for the organization.  Although our policy until now, free services for all seniors, is consistent with our philosophy of helping our elders as neighbors help neighbors, what you say, John, makes sense.  We will raise this issue soon, at our next Board Meeting and in the community.
