How do we at Morningside Village sustain our organization? It must be on love. Unlike most of the “villages” in the aging-in-place village movement in America today, Morningside Village elders do not pay for what they receive, except very often in unexpected kindnesses. And, volunteer duties are not prescribed in a brochure where elder members can choose from a list of services: traveling escort, computer touble-shooting, snow-shoveling and more. Rather, our volunteers are more like neighbors. In fact, we are neighbors. We visit; we help with whatever we can; we talk; we listen; and we care for our elder friends.
But, there are administrative costs in operating a program such as ours. We expect that in the coming year our income-making capacity will sustain the organization. But now, we are on a fund-raising mission. At holiday time, what better way to give than to help alleviate some of the dire challenges that our very elderly community members must face, one of which is to avoid the possibility of being sent off to live in a typical nursing institution. We at Morningside Village are helping to create a new and cost-effective option for frail elders: we are helping to sustain them at home. So, please feel free to use the Paypal button on our site to join us and be a part of it all!
Happy Holidays! from all of us at Morningside Village
