Megan, a Morningside Village Steering Committee member waited for the light to cross Broadway. She noticed, on the island in the middle of the wide avenue, two nonagenarians, a man and woman, taking in a bit of sun. She noticed the woman’s want of walking shoes. The leather was nearly torn completely, and the man wore broken glasses although he seemed to be dozing. In her mind, Megan knew that Morningside Village, with its 85 volunteers strong, could help.

Thursday, July 29th, 2010As Coordinator of Morningside Village, I felt like the Mad Hatter the night before leaving New York City for a week’s vacation in paradise. I was worried about one the older of our seniors who depends on Morningside Village, and, for her, I am its incarnation. She uses a wheelchair and doesn’t feel comfortable making excursions outside, so several volunteers have formed relationships with her and visit her regularly, but we have a special friendship.
